Meta Begins Rolling Out Memory Feature to Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

Some of the new AI capabilities for Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, announced at last week's Meta Connect, are rolling out today via software updates. These features include a new "memory" function and the ability to scan QR codes or send voice messages via WhatsApp and Messenger.

In a goofy Instagram post, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, demoed the memory feature by asking the glasses to remind him where he parked in a confusing garage. The glasses promptly recalled, "You parked in spot 304." This kind of feature shows promise beyond remembering parking spots—potential uses could include storing grocery lists, noting event details, or even remembering phone numbers.

The update also improves the AI's conversational abilities. You can now start a chat with a single "Hey Meta" command and continue the interaction without repeating the wake phrase. Apple and Google have rolled out a similar capability in their respective personal assistants.

Other features launching today include QR code scanning and the ability to send voice messages via WhatsApp and Messenger. More AI-driven features, such as real-time translation for Spanish, French, and Italian, multimodal video capabilities, and the accessibility-focused "Be My Eyes" partnership, will come in a future update.

To access the new features, simply ensure you have the latest version of the Meta View app (version 186) installed on your Android or iOS device.
