SAP and Microsoft Are Integrating their Generative AI Copilots

At SAP Sapphire 2024, Microsoft and SAP announced an expansion of their partnership with a joint AI integration. They’re bringing together SAP’s generative AI copilot, Joule, and Microsoft’s Copilot for Microsoft 365.

The goal is to create a seamless workflow for users by providing access to information from both business applications in SAP and Microsoft 365, all without the need to switch platforms.

This bi-directional integration means that a user working in Microsoft 365 Copilot can leverage SAP Joule to access data from SAP solutions like SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP SuccessFactors, or SAP Concur. Similarly, SAP Joule users can tap into the capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot without any disruption.

This integration is designed to boost productivity by reducing the time spent switching between applications and searching for information. With natural language processing at its core, the joint AI solution promises to transform how we work, allowing users to give simple voice commands to generate reports, book flights, block calendars, and more.

So, what could this look like? Say you’re a product manager working on a new launch. You’ve got meetings in Microsoft Teams and you collaborate using Microsoft 365. With Joule integrated, you can connect to team members’ profiles in SAP SuccessFactors and access key business information from SAP S/4HANA Cloud. Need to book a flight through SAP Concur? Joule can handle that and even block your calendar in Outlook.

This integration is set to start rolling out later this year. Microsoft and SAP are combining enterprise data from SAP with contextual knowledge from Microsoft 365 applications like Teams, Outlook, and Word. This means richer insights and better decision-making for users.
