Vox Media, the parent company of popular digital media brands such as The Verge, Vox, Eater, Vulture, SB Nation and New York Magazine, has announced a strategic content and product partnership with OpenAI. The deal is similar to the one announced earlier today with OpenAI and The Atlantic.
ChatGPT and future OpenAI products will be able to incorporate journalism from Vox Media's various properties. When the AI responds to prompts that includes content covered by these publications, OpenAI will provide brand attribution and links to the relevant articles.
Beyond content sharing, Vox Media says it will utilize OpenAI's technology to create audience-facing and internal applications. For example, it plans to leverage it in its affiliate commerce product, The Strategist Gift Scout, and its first-party data platform, Forte to improve ad performance and create better user experiences.
Jim Bankoff, co-founder, chair, and CEO of Vox Media, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, "This agreement aligns with our goals of leveraging generative AI to innovate for our audiences and customers, protect and grow the value of our work and intellectual property, and boost productivity and discoverability to elevate the talent and creativity of our exceptional journalists and creators."
OpenAI continues to forge partnerships with prominent media companies to enhance its AI models and avoid potential copyright lawsuits. These deals provide mutual benefits, with media companies gaining exposure to new audiences and financial gains, while OpenAI accesses valuable training data.
