AI research lab Anthropic, and Silicon Valley heavyweight, Menlo Ventures are joining forces to back the next generation of AI startups. The two companies announced Wednesday they're launching the $100 million Anthology Fund to invest in early-stage AI startups.
The fund will target pre-seed, seed, and Series A companies working on AI applications across various industries. It aims to back entrepreneurs developing everything from new AI infrastructure to novel uses of the technology in healthcare, education, and scientific research.
"We want to accelerate the development of groundbreaking AI applications," said Daniela Amodei, co-founder and President of Anthropic. "We're looking for ventures that use AI to boost human capabilities and productivity in fields like healthcare, legal services, education, energy, and infrastructure."
This isn't just another VC fund. It represents a strategic partnership between two industry heavyweights. Anthropic brings its cutting-edge AI technology and research expertise, while Menlo Ventures contributes its track record in company-building and venture capital.
Matt Murphy, Partner at Menlo Ventures, highlighted the fund's unique position: "We're combining Menlo's experience building companies with Anthropic's AI technology and talent. This puts us in a prime spot to find and partner with the most promising AI entrepreneurs."
The Anthology Fund will focus on five key areas:
- AI infrastructure
- New AI applications across industries
- Consumer AI solutions
- Trust and safety tools
- AI apps that maximize societal benefits
Startups backed by the Anthology Fund will gain more than just financial support. They'll receive access to Anthropic's advanced AI models, including $25,000 in free credits, as well as Menlo's venture support and vast network of industry connections.
The fund's name, "Anthology," reflects its goal of bringing together diverse AI innovators to create something extraordinary. As AI continues to evolve rapidly, the Anthology Fund aims to play a crucial role in shaping its responsible development and application.
With Anthropic's AI expertise and Menlo's venture experience, the Anthology Fund is well-positioned to spot and nurture the next big AI companies. The Anthology Fund is now open for applications from AI startups worldwide. While there is a preference for U.S.-based companies, exceptional international startups are also encouraged to apply.
