ChatGPT Doubles Weekly Active Users to 200 Million

OpenAI's ChatGPT has reached another impressive milestone. According to a report from Axios, it has doubled its weekly active user base to over 200 million in less than a year. The AI chatbot, which launched in late 2022, continues to lead the generative AI field despite increasing competition.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman highlighted the tool's widespread adoption, noting its impact across various sectors. "People are using our tools now as a part of their daily lives, making a real difference in areas like healthcare and education," Altman said.

This user growth is expected to accelerate further with Apple's recent partnership with OpenAI. The collaboration will integrate ChatGPT directly into iOS 18 and MacOS Sequoia potentially exposing the AI tool to millions of iPhone and Mac users worldwide. This move is likely to significantly boost ChatGPT's accessibility and user base in the coming months.

The company also reported that 92% of Fortune 500 companies are now using OpenAI products, underscoring the technology's growing influence in the corporate world. Additionally, usage of OpenAI's API has doubled since the release of its more efficient GPT-4o mini model in July.

While ChatGPT maintains its lead, the AI chatbot space remains fiercely competitive. Tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Meta continue to roll out updates to their own AI assistants in an effort to capture market share.

Meta, for instance, reported significant growth in the adoption of its open-source Llama models. The company saw usage double on major cloud service providers between May and July following the release of Llama 3.1.
