CodeRabbit Secures $16M in Series A Funding, Expands AI-Powered Code Review Capabilities

CodeRabbit, an AI-powered code review startup, has raised $16 million in a Series A funding round led by CRV. The investment, which also saw participation from Flex Capital and Engineering Capital, brings the company's total funding to just under $20 million.

The San Francisco-based startup plans to use the new capital to expand its sales and marketing teams, currently consisting of 10 people. CodeRabbit will also focus on enhancing its product offerings, particularly in the area of security vulnerability analysis.

Reid Christian, General Partner at CRV, will join CodeRabbit's board of directors. The company's CEO, Harjot Gill, previously co-founded Netsil, which was later acquired by Nutanix.

CodeRabbit's AI-driven tool integrates with GitHub and GitLab, providing automated code reviews within minutes. The company claims its approach is more accurate and efficient than traditional static analysis tools or manual peer reviews.

Since its launch, CodeRabbit has gained traction in the developer community. The startup reports over 16,000 installations on the GitHub Marketplace, with more than 150,000 repositories under review. It has also attracted several hundred paying organizations and sees an average of 10,000 developers using its platform daily.

In addition to the funding news, CodeRabbit announced a new feature that integrates with external knowledge bases. This update allows the platform to leverage contextual information from linked issues in project management tools like Jira and Linear during code reviews, potentially streamlining the development process.

While CodeRabbit has found initial success with small to medium-sized enterprises and open-source projects, the company is now setting its sights on larger enterprises. The startup reports it is currently conducting proof-of-concept trials with several Fortune 500 companies.
