Google Begins Rolling Out Gemini-Powered Smart Replies in Gmail

Google is now rolling out "contextual Smart Replies" in its Gmail app for Android and iOS, leveraging its Gemini AI to offer more intelligent and tailored response options for their emails.

This builds on Gmail's existing Smart Reply function, which launched in 2017. With the new Gemini-powered system, Gmail will analyze the entire email conversation to generate more comprehensive reply options. You can preview these suggestions by hovering over them, then select and edit the most appropriate response before sending.

You will need either a Gemini for Google Workspace add-on (available with Business, Enterprise, or Education subscriptions) or a Google One AI Premium account to utilize the new smart reply system.

For those with access, the feature can be enabled by ensuring "Smart features and personalization" is turned on in Gmail settings. Unlike the original Smart Reply, which supports multiple languages, the new contextual version is currently limited to English.
