Google Expands AI Email Writing Tools to Gmail on Web, Streamlines Mobile Experience

Google is bringing its AI-powered email writing assistant to Gmail on the web, making it easier for you to compose messages from your computer. The company is also introducing a new "Polish" shortcut that helps you quickly refine your emails on both web and mobile platforms.

When you open a blank email in Gmail's web version, you'll now see the "Help me write" option appear directly in your draft. This tool, powered by Google's Gemini AI, can help you write entire emails from scratch or improve existing drafts.

The new "Polish" shortcut appears automatically when you've written at least 12 words in your draft. On your computer, you can click the shortcut or press Ctrl+H to instantly refine your message. Mobile users can simply swipe on the shortcut to polish their drafts.

This update streamlines the mobile experience. Instead of having to swipe through multiple editing options, the polish feature now automatically refines your message. After the initial polish, you can still choose to further adjust your email's tone by making it more formal, adding more detail, or making it shorter.

To use these AI writing features, you'll need either a Google One AI Premium subscription or a Gemini add-on for Workspace. Google is rolling out these updates starting today, though it may take up to 15 days for all users to see the new features on the web version.

The expansion shows Google's continued push to integrate AI writing assistance across its products, making it quicker and easier for you to compose professional emails regardless of which device you're using.
