Microsoft announced plans to establish a new Engineering Development Center in Abu Dhabi, marking a significant expansion of its global engineering presence into the United Arab Emirates. The center, one of Microsoft's first in the Arab world, will focus on developing AI innovations, cloud technologies, and advanced cybersecurity solutions.

The Abu Dhabi facility joins Microsoft's network of development centers worldwide, aiming to create cutting-edge technologies that will be integrated into the company's global solutions. This move aligns with the UAE's ambitions to become a leading hub for technological innovation, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft's Chairman and CEO, emphasized the company's commitment to broad AI benefits and local opportunity creation. "Our Engineering Development Center in Abu Dhabi will bring new talent to the region and help power innovation that will drive economic growth and job creation for both the UAE and the world," Nadella stated.

The center's establishment builds on Microsoft's existing partnership with G42, a prominent UAE-based AI and cloud computing company. This collaboration has been instrumental in fostering a robust local tech ecosystem.

Beyond product development, the new center aims to play a crucial role in upskilling the regional workforce. Microsoft plans to collaborate with local universities, training centers, and government initiatives to empower professionals with skills in cloud computing, AI, and cybersecurity.

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, highlighted the strategic importance of the move. “Abu Dhabi is well-positioned to lead global efforts in AI, championing transformative solutions that benefit both people and the planet. Our advanced infrastructure and strategic location enable us to drive positive impacts across various industries and societies.”

This expansion represents a shift for the region from primarily consuming technology to actively contributing to its global creation. It underscores Microsoft's long-term commitment to the Middle East and aligns with the UAE's efforts to diversify its economy and transition towards a knowledge-based model.

As Microsoft continues to invest in the region's human capital and technological capabilities, the new Engineering Development Center is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of technology not just in the UAE, but potentially on a global scale.
