Runway, a prominent player in AI-generated video technology, has launched an API for its advanced video models. This will allow developers and companies to integrate Runway's generative AI capabilities into their own applications and services.
The API, currently in limited access, offers Runway's Gen-3 Alpha Turbo model - a faster variant of their flagship Gen-3 Alpha. Pricing starts at one cent per credit, with five credits required to generate one second of video.
The new API offers two primary plans: “Build” for individuals and teams looking to incorporate video generation into internal projects, and “Enterprise” for larger organizations aiming to embed the technology into consumer-facing products. Pricing starts at one cent per credit, with each second of generated video costing five credits.
One interesting requirement of using the Runway API is that the product must prominently display a “Powered by Runway” badge, linking back to the company’s website. Runway syas this is to ensure transparency and helps users understand the source of the generative technology.
Runway's API launch makes it one of the first AI companies to offer a video generation model through an API. It comes amid increasing competition in the generative video space over the last year. Tech giants like OpenAI, Google, and Adobe are all developing their own video generation models, with OpenAI's Sora expected to debut this fall. Other startups like Luma Labs and Pika are also rising in popularity.
