Stack Overflow has announced a new partnership with OpenAI that will bring access to its knowledge platform for technical content to OpenAI's popular language models.
Stack Overflow's vast repository of developer-vetted content and solutions will now be easily accessible through OpenAI's platforms, including ChatGPT. This means that developers using OpenAI's tools will have trusted, accurate, and up-to-date technical knowledge and code examples right at their fingertips, backed by Stack Overflow's community of millions.
The partnership goes both ways, with Stack Overflow also leveraging OpenAI's models in their own AI developments and using insights from internal testing to optimize the performance of OpenAI's LLMs. This collaboration will enhance the user experience for developers, providing efficient solutions and fostering a more engaged and productive developer community.
The partnership will also enable OpenAI to provide attribution to the Stack Overflow community within ChatGPT, fostering deeper engagement with the content. As Brad Lightcap, COO at OpenAI, stated, "Learning from as many languages, cultures, subjects, and industries as possible ensures that our models can serve everyone. The developer community is particularly important to both of us."
Prashanth Chandrasekar, CEO of Stack Overflow, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, saying, "Through this industry-leading partnership with OpenAI, we strive to redefine the developer experience, fostering efficiency and collaboration through the power of community, best-in-class data, and AI experiences."
The first set of new integrations and capabilities between Stack Overflow and OpenAI is expected to be available in the first half of 2024.
