Snowflake Announces Partnership and Investment in Mistral AI

Snowflake has partnered with Mistral AI to bring its powerful language models directly to customers in the Data Cloud. The partnership, which includes an investment from Snowflake Ventures in Mistral's Series A funding round, aims to provide enterprises with the tools they need to leverage large language models while maintaining data security and governance.

Through this collaboration, Snowflake customers gain access to Mistral AI's flagship model, Mistral Large, which boasts top-tier performance benchmarks and unique reasoning capabilities. The model is proficient in code, mathematics, and five languages, reflecting Mistral AI's commitment to promoting cultural and linguistic diversity in generative AI technology. Customers can also access Mixtral 8x7B, an open-source model surpassing OpenAI's GPT3.5 in speed and quality, and Mistral 7B, optimized for low latency and high throughput.

Mistral AI's models are now available in public preview as part of Snowflake Cortex, a fully managed LLM and vector search service that enables organizations to build AI apps securely with their enterprise data. Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO of Snowflake, emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership, stating, "With Snowflake as the trusted data foundation, we're transforming how enterprises harness the power of LLMs through Snowflake Cortex so they can cost-effectively address new AI use cases within the security and privacy boundaries of the Data Cloud".

Arthur Mensch, CEO and co-founder of Mistral AI, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the shared values of security, privacy, and governance between the two companies. "With our models available in the Snowflake Data Cloud, we are able to further democratize AI so users can create more sophisticated AI apps that drive value at a global scale," he said.

Snowflake Cortex LLM Functions, now in public preview, allow users to leverage AI with their enterprise data for various use cases. With specialized functions, SQL-skilled users can address tasks like sentiment analysis, translation, and summarization cost-effectively. Python developers can quickly build full-stack AI apps, such as chatbots, by combining foundation LLMs with chat elements within Streamlit in Snowflake.

Snowflake has joined the AI Alliance, an international community dedicated to promoting open, safe, and responsible AI. Through this collaboration, Snowflake aims to address the challenges and opportunities of generative AI comprehensively and openly, furthering the democratization of its benefits.
