The acquisition marks a significant step in AMD’s efforts to expand its presence in the AI ecosystem, aiming to strengthen its AI data center capabilities and challenge the dominance of market leader Nvidia.

This purchase is part of AMD's broader AI investment strategy. In the past year, the company has poured over $125 million into a dozen AI firms and bought Mipsology and Nod.ai to expand its AI ecosystem.

With these new chips, AMD is taking on rivals NVIDIA and Intel in the race to dominate the emerging AI PC market.

The new Versal Series Gen 2 devices are designed to meet the growing demand for AI-enabled embedded applications. By integrating multiple compute engines on a single chip, AMD aims to deliver high compute efficiency and performance, with scalability from low-end to high-end systems.

The new FPGAs offer enhanced security features, flexible interfacing, and power-efficient compute capabilities.

The new MI300 series includes three offerings - the MI300X Accelerator designed for generative AI workloads and HPC applications, the MI300X Platform optimized for massive multi-GPU AI deployments, and the MI300A APU tailored for advanced HPC workloads.

The addition of Nod.ai and its engineering talent will bring industry-leading software technology to AMD that accelerates the deployment of AI models tuned specifically for AMD hardware platforms.
